San Jose, California, USA band, started in 1962 as The Preps. They changed their name to The The New Arrivals in 1965. ------------------------ Preps #1, The Preps ------------------------ The began in 1962 with Tom Muller, Andre Meschi, Bill Smith and several others forming a band to play various events. In 1963, a meeting with Larry Mitchell and Jack Hayes of KLIV leads to them recording at Coast Recorders in San Francisco. Their first single was "Pam Pam" / "Elizabeth", Another Loser Records 176. This gained them an amount of popularity. Rod Gibino then joined them. In 1964 they opened for The Beach Boys at Exhibition Hall, Santa Clara Fairgrounds. Irving Granz, the Beach Boy’s promoter hired them to be an opening act and back-up group for some major stars on tour. This was the first time a band from San Jose got to tour with major acts. Also that same year, they released " Night Theme" / "What?" on Warped Records 5000. They were credited as Preps #1. The bass player on the "Night Theme" recording is said to be Sly Stone. He filled in for Rod Gibino who was sick at the time. The single was also released on Dot Records 45-16663 the same year. On that particular release, they were credited as The Preps. Iin 1965 they released "The Moonracers" / " Cheese On The Moon Baby (It's Mozarella)" on Southbay Records 001. This would be the last release as The Preps. Their next release "Take Me For What I Am" / "You Know You're Gonna Be", released on South Bay Records SBM 45 102 would be credited to The New Arrivals.
