More than 40 years ago, in the early 60s, it was founded by the inventor of the modern recording studios, Bill Putnam. In the early 70s the studio relocated into a remodeled studio, known as Mercury Sound Studios West since 1969.
For some time it changed the name to Toast Studios, but later changed back.
Since 2003 the studio has been run by Paul Stubblebine, who leaded Paul's Gourmet Mastering before and now also known as Paul Stubblebine Mastering Studio.
