Coolmusic Sound & Graphic Design
Настоящее имя: Coolmusic Sound & Graphic Design
German full service manufacturer and record company from Wuppertal, founded in 1993 by Mone Rathmann and Christian Kuhl.
The company started with a broad variety of activities:
- Record company, label, publishing and distribution
- Manufacturer for CDs, vinyl, cassettes, VHS, DVD
- Mastering, video production, graphics, multimedia, promotion, booking, duplication
The manufacturing branch started its action in 1996. Before, there was already activity for their labels and subcompanies KEEP COOL!, Coolmusic, Future Beats and Cool Music Publishing.
The manufacturing department offered both, manufacturing for their own labels and full manufacturing of small editions in low quantities. The latter offer was provided independently and was open for any production of multimedia content.
Although mainly focussed on the production of CDs and enhanced CDs, there was also a small department for vinyl production. Here, most likely only mastering took place in Wuppertal.
On April 1st, 2002, the company got related to Edel:Distribution as its distribution arm. Before that, it was already tied to Warner Music and Edel since the year 2000. After restructuring of edel music AG in 2002, the support by Edel stopped around October 2003. Manufacturing activities by Coolmusic are proved until 2007. The company seems abandoned between 2008 and 2011 and restarted in 2012 as pure online multimedia platform specialized on Goa music and audio books.
Coolmusic was active as manufacturer for CDs, enhanced CDs, DVDs, 12'' vinyls, VHS and audio cassettes between 1996 and 2007.
CDs manufactured by the company show the following pattern in matrix:
COOL YY#####,
where YY is the last 2 digit of the manufacturing year (i.e. '99' for 1999 or '03' for 2003)
and ##### is an individual manufacturing code
Especially in later years, the matrix can also contain further patterns by external companies additional to the above pattern. Considering available data and depicted cooperations, mastering and glass mastering was done by Coolmusic itself, while pressing was performed either by Optimal Media Production or by Warner Music Manufacturing Europe until November 2003 and later by Cinram GmbH. However, there might be exceptions from this standard process.
Vinyl was also manufactured by Coolmusic also between 1996 and 2007, however such examples are rare.
For vinyl, a similar pattern can be found in the runouts:
COOL YY# #### A/B-1 or COOL YY ## ### A/B-1,
where YY is the last 2 digit of the manufacturing year (i.e. '99' for 1999 or '03' for 2003)
and # #### is an individual manufacturing code.
For both cases, the 'YY######'-block of the matrix can be taken as manufacturing number in LCCN, as all numbers are unique and independent of the catalogue number of the label.
Note, that other companies (especially an UK manufacturer) also used 'COOL' in their matrix codes, but using a different numbering pattern.
Coolmusic used the label code LC 02783, which could be booked as a service for customers per production. The label code was registered for the sublabel KEEP COOL!. Thus the LC can't be used as a proof for that label, as it was not used continuously for 'KEEP COOL'!.
