Brief history of RCA, Ariola, BMG and Sonopress in Brazil
Shortly after the establishment of Victor Talking Machine Co. Of Brazil, following the association of companies in the USA, RCA Victor Radio, S.A. was the first branch of the American RCA installed in Brazil, as a Record Company until 1949, when was built and inaugurated in São Paulo one of the largest vinyl record factories in South America. In 1970 the company was renamed as RCA Eletrônica Ltda. In the mid 1980's, with the arrival of the Ariola label and following the changes and acquisitions made outside Brazil, the Brazilian branch of RCA is absorbed by the German BMG. For approximately 5 years the presses of the factory are credited to 3 companies as manufacturer and/or distributor, RCA Eletrônica Ltda., RCA/Ariola Internacional Discos Ltda. and BMG Ariola Discos Ltda. After 1988 the tradename Sonopress is incorporated as a manufacturing division, mentioned on releases as BMG-Ariola Discos Ltda. - Divisão Sonopress, usually on center labels rim text. Records crediting RCA Eletrônica and RCA-Ariola were no longer released. Most of the releases since then (1988 - 1996) credits BMG Ariola Discos Ltda. on covers and BMG Ariola Discos Ltda. Divisão Sonopress on center labels, until 1996, when the vinyl manufacture ceased.
