Eastman Kodak Company is an American company based in Rochester, NY, USA, best known for photographic services and equipment.
In April 1994, a CD-R manufacturing plant was opened in Guadalajara, Mexico, operating as Grupo Kodak de Mexico. A second CD-R manufacturing plant was opened in late 1996, this time in Youghal, Cork, Ireland, operating as Kodak Cork Ltd. CD-R manufacturing also took place at Kodak Gerber Park in Rochester, NY during the 1990s.
In late 1999, Eastman Kodak Company went into a joint venture with Panasonic Disc Services Corporation (PDSC), a subsidiary of Matsushita Electric Ind. Co., Ltd., to establish Matsushita Media Manufacturing LLC of America, a company that aimed to increase DVD and other optical disc manufacturing capabilties available to both Eastman Kodak and Panasonic, operating out of Eastman Kodak's existing plants in Youghal and Guadalajara.
At the end of 2001, Eastman Kodak decided to cease CD-R manufacturing operations, and sold its share of Matsushita Media Manufacturing LLC to PDSC. Matsushita Electric sold PDSC to Technicolor in the first half of 2002, at which time the Youghal and Guadalajara plants came under Technicolor's ownership. The Youghal plant was eventually closed in 2003, while the Guadalajara plant remains operational as of 2019.
