"Stoney LaRue & The Organic Boogie Band is the culmination of 15 years of "Red Dirt Music". Red Dirt began as a term for the songwriting style centered around Stillwater, Oklahoma for the past 25 years. Where it began is somewhat foggy, but what is clear is that it is sweeping the nation and those responsible call Stillwater 'home'. Today, several acts have established themselves and proudly wave the Red Dirt banner. The Great Divide, Jason Boland & the Stragglers, Cross Canadian Ragweed and The Red Dirt Rangers have all become national (and a few international) touring acts. Although a new outfit from the Red Dirt genre, Stoney and the OBB combine a healthy history. LaRue has been an active songwriter for the past four years penning more than a few of Cross Canadian and the Straggler's more requested numbers as well as co-writing with Red Dirt godfather Bob Childers. (Our Okie Bob Dylan...) He also co-wrote and did vocal work with the Great Divide on their gospel inspired cd "Dirt & the Spirit". Likewise, members of his band comprise a good dose of Red Dirt history as well. Guitarist Brad James and bassist Donnie Wood were founding members of Oklahoma's Medicine Show who where, along with the Red Dirt Rangers and Jimmy LaFave, some of the first to take the genre beyond the state line. Ragweed and the Divide have both recorded songs from the Show's archives of originals and continue to play them today as beloved favorites. The band completes it's roster with keyboardist Jack Wolfe of Old Tulsa Fame and Green Country Native Doug Wehmeyer on percussion. Jack's keyboard history stretches from jamming with members of the Grateful Dead during the late 60's in San Fransisco to playing with CMA recipient Gus Hardin. He's also pounded a tune or two with the like's of Tulsa legends J.J.Cale and Jimmy Karstein. Jack brings a seasoned quality to the group that only a lifetime of playing provides. Drummer Doug Wehmeyer adds the salt to the mix in true Okie fashion. Raised on jazz and swing by his guitarist father, he brings a youthful energy that combines a seasoned knowledge of traditional drumming to the group. Stoney's songwriting talent and his band's soiled Red Dirt history promise to be a major force in the "Red Dirt to come". In less than 6 months time they have stunned audiences across the lower Midwest, shared bills with Ian Moore, The Great Divide and the Stragglers to name a few. In addition, Corban Maclaine featured the band live on KORA radio's "Backporch Show" in College Station, Texas in a performance that set a new watermark for the show's history drawing a Sunday night standing-room-only audience at the host venue, The Dixie Chicken. With so much accomplished in so little time, Stoney LaRue and The Organic Boogie Band are bringing the best of two generations of Red Dirt songwriting together and taking it to the people."
