Paula Af Malmborg

Swedish composer, born February 27, 1962. She is above all known for her stage works. As the daughter of a conductor and opera director, Lars af Malmborg and opera singer Gunilla Af Malmborg, it may seem natural, but it was popular music she devoted most of her time to growing up in parallel with classical piano studies for Gunnar Hallhagen. She trained as a music teacher at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and later continued to study composition for Hans Gefors at the Malmö Academy of Music. Her thesis Bombpartyt, which premiered at the Gothenburg Opera in 1998, was her breakthrough as an opera composer. During her studies, she and Bjarne Nyqvist wrote the song Rendez-Vous jokingly and sent it to the Melodifestivalen. The song came along and competed in 1984, where it was sung by John Ballard. It finished third and afterwards Malmborg received more offers to write music. Among other things, she composed the background music for SVT's Christmas calendar "En decemberdröm" 2005.
