Lovro Pogorelić, or Pogorelich (b. 1970), is a Croatian classical pianist, a younger brother of Ivo Pogorelich. In addition to extensively performing since 1987, Lovro teaches piano at the Muzička Akademija Zagreb and directs his PagArtFestival (founded in 1999). Pogorelich received initial lessons from his father, Ivan, a classically trained musician who played double bass in Yugoslav National Army Symphony Orchestra. In 1982, twelve-year-old Lovro Pogorelić began studying with his principal tutor, Konstantin Bogino. Three years later, the young pianist appeared as a soloist for the first time, performing Robert Schumann's Piano Concerto with Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra. Lovro Pogorelić performed all over Europe and internationally, in addition to most Croatian cities. Some of the prominent concert halls where he appeared include Salle Gaveau and Palais Des Festivals Et Des Congrès, Cannes in France, UK's Purcell Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Italian Teatro Bibiena, Tivoli Koncertsalen, Copenhagen in Denmark, Nybrokajen 11 in Sweden, "Bulgaria" Concert Hall in Bulgaria, Suntory Hall, Tokyo and Tokyo Bunka Kaikan in Japan, Grand Hall Of The Leningrad Philharmonia and Moscow International House Of Music in Russia, and Lincoln Center Theater's Alice Tully Hall in the United States. In 1993, Lovro Pogorelić relocated to Paris under a grant from Fondation D'Enterprise Crédit National. The pianist toured extensively across the country during his French tenure and released his debut CD album on René Gambini's audiophile label Lyrinx, featuring Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Prokofiev's Piano Sonata No. 7. In 1998, Pogorelich recorded one of the earliest DVD-Audio albums for Denon in the "DENON Ambience" series, appearing as a soloist with Danish Odense Symfoniorkester. (The release had 5.1 and stereo tracks and was audio-only; however, it still came with a DVD-Video logo on the front cover, marketed before the DVD Consortium had finalized formal technical specifications for DVD-Audio format). In 2006, Lovro released a CD of Franz Liszt's piano works on the French label Intrada; Mezzo TV filmed and aired a documentary on the recording of this album. The artist released his second CD for Intrada two years later, featuring Moussorgsky's Pictures and preludes by Rachmaninoff.
