German comedian and composer (born December 30, 1870 in Berlin; died July 1944 in KZ Theresienstadt). Starting in 1889, at age 18, Paul Bendix began performing in comical sketches with his father Martin Bendix, known as "Der Urkomische Bendix." For 27 years, they resided at the "American-Theater" on Dresdener Straße in Berlin; in 1911, they opened up their own cabaret, "Unterhaltungsetablissement Bendix," at Oranienstraße 68. After the father's death in a car accident in 1915, Paul Bendix continued to perform and record their old sketches, sometimes teaming up with his sister Elise Bendix. Both of them toured the United States between September 1922 and April 1923. During that tour, they recorded German-language sketches for Victor and Brunswick. As a composer, Paul Bendix wrote operettas, revues, and schlager.
