Celebration

The tune of Celebration is of the short-lived Broadway musical that lasted from January 22 to April 26, 1969. Tom Jones (not the Tom Jones who popularized It's Not Unusual) wrote the lyrics and Harvey Schmidt composed the music. The tune of Jubilee Joe was of another short-lived 1969 Broadway production called Red, White and Maddox. This production had ridiculed Lester Maddox, who had defied the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by refusing to serve black customers in his restaurant.
