Street Beats

Street Beats (or Streetbeats as it was referred to internally as well) was formed in early 1994 by Phil Wells at the Record Basement in Reading (the shop front to Vinyl Distribution), as a platform for the three most ground-breaking drum and bass artists of the time; Truper (aka Photek), Oblivion (aka Source Direct) and Peshay. The roster expanded quickly offering new talent a chance. In 1995 when Phil and Vinyl Distribution parted ways the label was managed by Donovan Bad Boy Smith and Blue (2). With the release of SBEATS 013 the label found its new sound; a fusion of abstract beats, soul funk vibe and streetwise aggression.
