Der Andere Song

A German mainly folklore / singer-songwriter label. In 1972, German label Hansa decided to start a series called "Der Andere Song" (DAS). It was originally established to publish songwriter-based German music. Initially, "Der Andere Song" was called a series on the record sleeves themselves and had a branded logo including a numbering scheme and a back catalogue of other series releases (only Singles). Examples for this stage are Maskenball Im Hochgebirge / Schmalzer In F for a Single-release (listed as 'Singles'), which had numbering "Kleine Platte Nr. 7" and Gesucht for a LP-release, which had numbering "Große Platte Nr. 2". In this stage, Hansa Record was used as a label. In 1974, after 7 singles and a couple of LPs, Hansa decided to run "Der Andere Song" as a sublabel of Hansa. The numbering disappeared and there was no more a catalogue on back cover, but on some releases after 1975, the back cover still calls "Der Andere Song" a series. This second stage was also the start of the pinkish "Hansa · Der Andere Song" pinkish labels. Also repress versions of the first period are found as variants with this kind of label. In the third stage after 1974, DAS was no longer called a series and was assigned an own label code: LC 3943. The label disappeared around 1983 with the downfall of the so-called "Neue Deutsche Welle", when German music was no longer a million seller. In the end of "Der Andere Song" (spring 1982 and later), singles were injection mould and first pressed with the standard Hansa-branded labels. After some time, the label brand was expanded by a comma, so the name became 'Hansa, Der Andere Song'. However, there were licensed pressings, still with the old logo brand even in 1983. How to identify and enter vinyl releases: - In the first stage, releases should be entered only with DAS as a series. You will recognize this stage by numbering of the series on label and on back cover. Please use the complete numbering scheme as on release, e.g. "Kleine Platte Nr. 6" and "Große Platte Nr. 2", when entering the series number. This numbering is derived from the series brand on back sleeve for singles and on labels on LPs. Please do enter only "Hansa Record" as a label, as the series brand is used here intentionally less prominent than the label brand. Stage one ends with series 'Kleine Platte Nr.7' in 1974. - In the second stage (starting from series 'Nr. 8') releases should be entered in crediting DAS for both, series and label entry. As here, in most cases, series numbering doesn't occur anymore, the field should be left empty or 'none' should be entered in the number field. Such releases can be identified by the "Hansa · Der Andere Song" label brand and is defined per text on back cover, stating this as a series. Releases appear chronologically irregular, depending on sleeve artwork. Note, that there are repress versions around, which are numbered and should be also considered as part of this stage. - The third stage uses DAS only for label purposes, i.e. no series entry should be done for DAS. There is no more mention about the series on the release, but label code LC 3943 is used in many cases. As the series catalogue lists 'Singles' and 'LPs', the use of format 'single'- and 'LP'-tag is safe for this label. Cassette releases had a different numbering scheme in stage 1 and 2 (e.g. '6. MC'), Hansa acted as label, and as on LPs, no catalogue print is found on Cassettes.
