Suzy Records is a record company based in Zagreb, Croatia that was established in the then Socialist Republic of Croatia in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1972. It was originally established as an agency for organizing concerts and other events, as a distributor of phonographic releases and as a recording studio. Their product was manufactured mostly by Jugoton or TGP Helidon, while their music cassettes were duplicated by RTV Ljubljana or Jugoton or directly imported from abroad. The company later installed its own CD replication equipment. The CD plant closed and all equipment was offered for sale in early 2021.
The company was most successful during the 1980s, under managing director Milan Škrnjug. He was also a prominent organizer and promoter of music events and managed several important local "new wave" rock bands such as Parni Valjak, Prljavo Kazalište, Azra (3), Boa (2), Metak and Parlament (2), who released some of their most influential records on Suzy label. Since the mid-1980s the company also engaged in software business. Suzy Records gained reputation during the 1970s and 1980s as one of the major Yugoslav record companies with a rich licence catalogue. Through licencing agreements with some of the biggest international record labels, such as CBS, Warner Bros. Records, Atlantic, Elektra etc., Suzy Records released many globally important titles of popular and classical music for the Yugoslav market.
After the abandonment of the socialist system and the subsequent breakup of Yugoslavia, during the 1990s the company transformed to SUZY d.o.o. (limited company). However, unlike its bigger competitors Jugoton and PGP-RTB which changed their names to Croatia Records and PGP-RTS respectively, Suzy continued to work under the same name. Several of its older important domestic titles were re-released in cooperation with another Croatian record label Hit Records during the 2000s.
