The Interlochen Arts Academy (IAA) is an American fine arts boarding high school in northwest Michigan, established in 1962 by Dr. Joseph E. Maddy. Each year IAA accepts 500 students from around the world majoring in Music, Comparative Arts, Creative Writing, Dance, Motion Picture, Theatre and Visual Arts. The school is known for competitive entrance auditions and high level of education, with most graduates continuing their studies at Juilliard School, Eastman School Of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, The School Of The Art Institute Of Chicago, New England Conservatory Of Music, The Oberlin Conservatory Of Music, Manhattan School Of Music, Peabody Institute, California Institute Of The Arts, and other renowned U.S. conservatories. Due to its reputation and secluded location, Interlochen Arts Academy has attracted many celebrity offspring, including children of Robin Williams, Hugh Hefner, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, and Alan Menken. The Academy is part of Interlochen Center for the Arts which also operates Interlochen Arts Camp (formerly the National Music Camp), Interlochen College of Creative Arts, public radio and performing arts series.
