Transamerica Corporation

American banking, communications & entertainment corporation. They acquired United Artists Records, Inc. in May 1967 and Liberty Records, Inc. in summer 1968. Both were merged into Liberty/United Artists, Inc. a.k.a. Liberty/UA, Inc., which appears on the records approximately spring 1969. Early in 1971 the Liberty label was folded and merged into the United Artists Records roster. A new heading company appeared, United Artists Music And Records Group, Inc. to manage UA and the several sublabels. After a complicated try to sell the labels in 1978, the company Capitol Records, Inc. acquired the label-trust early in 1979.
