Partial history:
• 1982 – Founded as a small-run cassette manufacturer by ex-London Records Canada sales manager Richard Bélanger. From the outset, only produced some of its product in-house; the rest was outsourced.
• Early 1990s – Began offering CD manufacturing, initially 100% outsourced to Disque Americ.
• 1996 – Bought first CD production rig to make ~15 thousand discs per day, used it to fill small orders, outsourcing the larger ones to Disque Americ.
• 1997 – Added second CD production rig.
• 1998 – Added third CD production rig.
• Jul. 2000 – In order to begin producing DVDs, RSB merged with/became majority-owned by Disque Americ, yet both companies continued to operate under their own names.
• Feb. 2011 – Disque Americ closed. Bélanger bought two of their DVD presses and kept his facility open.
• Nov. 2011 – Rebranded as RSB iMedia.
Outsourcing of CD production apparently never stopped, as discs with RSB in the matrix have a variety of matrix formats and SID codes which suggest the involvement of Disque Americ and others. For now, do not credit such third-party companies unless they are explicitly mentioned on the item.
Even after the company rebrand to RSB iMedia, some CDs still only mention RSB, so continue to use this name for those.
