Record company established by Virgin Records Ltd. in 1983 and operated until 2002. In June 1992 when Virgin UK was sold to to Thorn Emi, Virgin NZ became a subsidiary of Thorn EMI NZ Ltd and a division of EMI (NZ) Ltd. and moved from Whittaker Pace into Babbage House with EMI NZ.

History:
30 September 1983: Virgin Records NZ Ltd. is incorporated. Initially Virgin Records Ltd. owns 750 shares and Brian Pitts (2), from RTC NZ Ltd. owns 250. In 1989 Pitts was bought out by Virgin.
1 June 1992: Virgin globally was sold to EMI and the shareholding in NZ was: majority shareholder Virgin Records Ltd. (999 shares), EMI (NZ) Ltd. holds 1 share.
Brian Pitts was made redundant shortly thereafter.
27 June 1997: Company deregistered due to change of ownership.
30 June 1997: Re-registered as Virgin Group New Zealand Ltd., now fully owned by EMI (NZ) Ltd.
25 July 1997: Name change back to Virgin Records New Zealand Ltd.
October 2002: Formal close of business whilst operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of EMI Music New Zealand Ltd. (dissolved and removed from register on 25 November 2002).
