NZ record exec and audio engineer born 26 November 1940. Brian Pitts joined Lotus Recording Studio in Wellington, NZ, in 1958. From 1960 to 1964 he was employed as an engineer at Landsdowne Studios in the UK. From 1964 to 1967 he was an engineer at the HMV Studios in Wellington, followed by two years back in the UK in music publishing. Pitts joined Philips in New Zealand in 1970 and was National Sales and Promotion Manager, moving to Phonogram in 1972. He left to join John McCready (2) at RTC NZ Ltd. and Boom Boom Music Ltd. in late 1976. From late 1977, Pitts was the sole owner of RTC, selling 75% of the company to Virgin Records NZ Ltd. on 1 October 1983. Virgin acquired the final 25% in 1989. From 22 March 1988 to 7 July 1992 he was the President of the Record Industry Association of New Zealand. After the EMI purchase of Virgin, Brian Pitts was made redundant on 1 July 1992. Brian Pitts died on November 20, 2020.
