Parent company of the Motown label, founded in Detroit, Michigan, but relocated entirely to California in 1972. Sometime U.S. distributor of CTI Records, Kudu, Gull, Manticore. Succeeded in 1988 by Motown Record Company, L.P. after sale of assets to MCA Records.
