Samuel Steinberg

Jewish-American actor, playwright, and composer (born December 1, 1890 in Sveksna, Lithuania – died July 1, 1938 in New York, NY, USA) Steinberg and his family immigrated to the United States in 1903 and settled in Philadelphia. He joined the Garden Dramatic Club in 1905 and soon became an actor himself. He wrote dozens of plays and songs for the Yiddish theater. His greatest hit song was "Yossel, Yossel", written in 1923 with his wife, actress Nellie Casman, a song recorded and popularized as "Joseph, Joseph" by the Andrews Sisters in 1938.
