Russian-born American actress and singer in Yiddish theater (born December 1, 1895 in Proskurov, Russia [now Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine] – died May 27, 1984 in New York, NY, USA). Casman grew up in Philadelphia, PA, where her father served as a cantor. She began acting as a child and turned professional when she was hired by a New York theater manager, performing both in Yiddish theater and on the Vaudeville circuit. Cassman recorded dozens of Yiddish songs for the Victor and Columbia labels. Her greatest hit was "Yossel, Yossel", which she wrote in 1923 together with her husband, playwright Shlomo “Samuel” Steinberg.
