Dick Bennett

Dick Bennett was born on March 29, 1934 in Topeka, Kansas. He was the younger brother of Roland Bennett and a member of his rhythm & blues band The Rockin' Whalers, which formed in 1951. He mastered the harmonica during a stint in the U.S. Army and joined the Whalers as the bassist, harmonica player and blues vocalist. He performed under the name of ‘Sweet Root’ or "Daddy Sweet Root".
