Argentinian composer and keyboards player born in Buenos Aires in 1962. He studied piano at the University of Arts and Musical Sciences of the UCA. He continued his piano studies with Susana Casacoff shortly after being attracted to Jazz and studying with Santiago Giacobbe and working in Buenos Aires playing with Lito Epumer, Javier Malosetti, Mono Fontana, Luis Borda, among many others. In 1993 he settled in Madrid while studying in New York with Bruce Barth and Aaron Goldberg. He also takes classes with Gerge Cables, Joanne Brakeen and Kevin Hayes. The AIE of Spain awarded him the Jazz 'Tete Montoliú' scholarship in 1999 and SGAE the Fundación Autor grant in 2003 as a finalist of the Composition Biennial of the General Society of Authors (SGAE) in 2003. He was nominated for the GRAMMY awards (edition 2005) for the album 'Andando el Tiempo' by Gerardo Nuñez (ACT) in the category of Best Flamenco Album. Mariano Díaz plays regularly with musicians such as Perico Sambeat, Jorge Pardo, Marc Miralta «New York Flamenco Reunion», Sonny Fortune, Frank Lazy, Pedro Iturralde, Gerardo Núñez, Paolo Fresu, Perico Sambeat, Seamus Blake Qtet, Enrique Morente, Jerry Gonzalez, Javier Colina, Chris Kase or Eddie Henderson, among others. With his own quartet he has recorded two albums and has participated in numerous tours in the United States, Puerto Rico, Holland, France, Germany, Greece, Portugal, Egypt and the Middle East. To all this he adds his intense teaching work developed, among other institutions, as Jazz piano teacher at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Liceo in Barcelona, as a piano teacher at La Popular: School of Music and Dance of Madrid, as professor of keyboards in the School of Music Dionisio Aguado and as professor of analysis of Jazz, improvisation, instrumental group and complementary piano in the Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country MUSIKENE (Spain).
