Jenny Lou Carson

American country singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Born January 13, 1915 in Decatur, Illinois, USA Died December 16, 1978 in Inglewood, California, USA. She was married four times, including to country musician Donald "Red" Blanchard and bandleader Tiny Hill. She was the first woman to write a No. 1 country music hit. From 1945 to 1955 she was one of the most prolific songwriters in country music. Between 1944 and 1983, she charted as a songwriter 44 times on the U.S. and U.K. charts. Her first #1 country song came in 1945 with "You Two Timed Me One Time Too Often" by Tex Ritter. Her next #1 came from "Don't Rob Another Man's Castle" by Eddy Arnold in 1949. Her "Let Me Go, Lover" by Joan Weber came in 1954--it was #1 in the U.S. overall (not just on the country charts). Hank Snow's version of the same song also hit #1 overall in 1955. Twenty-seven of her forty-four charted songs made it into the top 10 of the charts. Inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (1971) and was a member of the WLS National Barn Dance. She never charted as a singer.
