American bandleader, musician, and singer during the Big Band era. Born July 19, 1906 in Sullivan Township, Illinois. Died in December 1971. He was married and divorced from country singer/songwriter Jenny Lou Carson. He charted with a song written by his wife "Never Trust a Woman" in 1948--it landed at the #5 spot on the U.S. country charts. He charted seven other times between 1939 and 1951, with his highest charted songs being "How Many Hearts Have You Broken (With Those Great Big Beautiful Eyes)", which made it to #4 U.S. overall. He was nicknamed "Tiny" because of his weight (350 pounds). Later in his career he was hired as Folk Music Director at Mercury Records.
