Mark Laliberte is a Canadian writer / visual artist / designer / soundmaker / curator / multi-headed hydra who has exhibited & performed extensively in galleries & festivals across Canada & the USA. He is a founding member of the new media collective Thinkbox (the six-member collective included Christopher Bissonnette, Mark Laliberte, Chris McNamara, Steve Roy, Rob Theakston and Bill Van Loo). His first CD release, [r14493092] documents a series of soundscapes for photographs of surreal, sleeping figures; the artist spent the better part of four years theatrically photographing subjects in different stages of sleep and later recording the surreal sounds that he imagined sonic backdrops to accompany each portrait; in the work's proper gallery setting, groups of character portraits are matched to speakers sewn into pillows and placed at floor level revealing each sonic scene while simultaneously bleeding out into one overall room-based soundtrack. "Archive: 1996-2007", a 40-page catalogue documenting over a decade of Thinkbox sound experiments, video installations and performances, was published by the Art Gallery of Windsor in 2007.
