Florence And Tommy Vandamm

Husband and wife team of photographers, comprising Florence Vandamm (born Florence Van Damm in 1883 in London, England; died March 15, 1966, at Doctors Hospital in New York) and American engineer George R. Thomas (aka Tommy Vandamm, died 1944). Florence opened a photographic studio in London in 1908. The couple married in 1918. In 1919, Florence became a Royal Photographic Society fellow, and the couple created a studio partnership in 1919. Relocated to New York in 1923. The couple ran the Vandamm Studio, on West 57th Street, which existed from approximately 1928 to 1962. The studio was contracted to the Theater Guild from approximately 1925 to 1950, and provided photographic services for stage productions, with Florence specializing in publicity portraits of theatrical performers, and Tommy specializing in on-stage photography/production stills. The Vandamm Studio photograph archive is housed at the New York Public Library.
