Photographer, born Florence Van Damm in 1883 in London, England; died March 15, 1966, at Doctors Hospital in New York. Opened a photographic studio in London in 1908. Married American photographer George R. Thomas (aka Tommy Vandamm, who died 1944) in 1918. Became a Royal Photographic Society fellow in 1919, and the couple created a studio partnership in 1919. Relocated to New York in 1923. The couple ran the Vandamm Studio, on West 57th Street, which existed from approximately 1928 to 1950. Most active as a photographer in New York from 1925 to 1950, with the studio contracted to the Theater Guild, and provided photographic services for stage productions, specializing in publicity portraits of theatrical performers. Known as "Broadway’s greatest theatrical photographer." While Tommy specialized in on-stage photography and production stills. Florence retired in 1950. And the Vandamm Studio photograph archive was donated to the New York Public Library in 1962.
