Billy Green Bey

Billie Barrett Greenbey provided the piercing alto in the legendary gospel music trio The Barrett Sisters’ silvery, spine-tingling harmonies. Her smooth vocals would bridge the melodic gap to help create unique, pristine sounds of the group. Born in 1928, Billie performed together for nearly 70 years with her sisters. They are linked to the early days of traditional gospel to contemporary singers who sprang from the church. Billie also became a church soloist after taking voice lessons at the American Music Conservatory. Billie Barrett-GreenBey died February 28, 2020 at the age of 91. Today, the names of both The Barrett Sisters as a trio and Delois Barrett Campbell as a famed soloist are engraved into the Stellar Awards, the oldest and longest-running prize for gospel music achievements.
