Lisa Ohm is a German singer, originally from Bad Salzuflen in North Rhine-Westphalia. Due to publishing reasons she sometimes is credited as Gudrun Ohm, which is part of her full name. She is mainly known today as the lead singer of Ghia, a studio project together with Lutz Boberg and Frank Simon, who she recorded with in the 1980s and early 1990s. She is the mother of popular German actress Lotte Ohm. Ohm startet her professional music career at an early age. Since the mid 1970s she was working as a singer in various band projects. Also known under her nickname “Öhmchen”, she was loosely active with bands from the Schneeball collective and became singer for the jazz rock band Aera in the early 1980s. Together with the group she was part of the popular Grüne Raupe Tour in 1981 which additionally featured well-known artists like Ulla Meinecke, Heinz Rudolf Kunze, and others. Together with members of Aera and the Real Ax Band she formed the Instant Ego Band (exact band members were: Lutz Oldemeier (of Aera, Missus Beastly), Otto Gwiasda (of Real Ax Band), Locko Richter (of Aera), Uli Meier-Limberg (of Area), Jürgen Benz (of Missus Beastly), Max Gruber). Unfortunately, the band never published any recordings. She was also a member of the short-lived band Mathea Wlömsk together with Atzen Wehmeyer (of Missus Beastly). In the mid 1980s Lisa Ohm rather focussed on studio work. She was one of the key background singers at the Cottage studio where she recorded works with Georgie Red and George Kochbek, among many others. For example, she was featured on the second album of the leftfield experimental project Internationales Geräuschorchester and released a 12" single with Käthe Kruse under the label of Die Tötliche Doris in 1989. Throughout her career she performed with or recorded works with Jasper van´t Hoff, Pit Meuffels, Achim Meier, Mickie Stickdorn, Uli Ahnen, Micky Meinert, Jens Fischer, Achim Gieseler, Richard Wester, Roland Spremberg, just to name a few. It was around 1985 when Lisa Ohm was introduced to the composers and musicians Lutz Boberg and Frank Simon by Wigbert Piper at the Cottage studio which were looking for a new vocalist. She quickly became the third member of Ghia which led to a large number of studio recordings. The work with Ghia is known today as one the most creative phases in her career. At the time, the band was approaching a record deal with a large label but remained unsuccessful. As the options for a major record deal had vanished they put out the single You Won't Sleep On My Pillow / What's Your Voodoo? on the small Mikado label. Almost 30 years later, the single began to spread over the internet and led to a reissue and various sampler contributions of the band. In 1993, Ghia released an EP on CD, which became their last official project for a long time. Due to the late success of the track “Whats Your Voodoo?” further material by Ghia with Lisa Ohm on vocals are about to be released on the label The Outer Edge. Throughout the 1990s up until today Lisa Ohm performs and records music with various bands. She constantly works as a lead and backing singer, for example being part of a tour with Andrew Strong (of The Commitments) in 2014. Ohm currently lives in Schleswig-Holstein.
