Swiss conductor and music teacher (* 11. August 1920 in Zurich, † 5. December 2004 in Basel). Studied piano with Volkmar Andreae at the Konservatorium Zürich and later at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. He became assistant to Paul Burkhard at the Schauspielhaus, later at the Stadttheater in Zurich. In the early 1940s he conducted the Kammerorchester Neumünster, renamed in 1944 to Neues Kammerorchester Zürich (not be confused with the Zürcher Kammerorchester). In 1946 he began in Basle to lead the second chamber orchestra, while he remained conductor of the Neues Kammerorchester Zürich. In the late 1940s he led also the Zürcher Bach-Chor. From 1950 - 1957 the conducted the Polizei-Musik Basel. Around 1950 he became also leader of the Stadttheater Basel.In 1951 he co-founded the professional orchestra Collegium Musicum Basel. From 1952 -1965 he conducted the Stadtmusik Thun. In 1961 he founded and led the Interlakener Mozart-Wochen, in the 1970s he became conductor at the Volksoper Wien. Not to be confused with Albert Th.
