Swiss singer, guitarist and actor. (*19.06.1916 in Lausanne, Switzerland), better known in Europe under his pseudonym Billy Toffel as singer in Teddy Stauffer Und Seine Original Teddies. In 1948 he came to the USA and got a fourteen-week engagement at the Savoy-Plaza Hotel in New York City, and then touring Canada, the United States and South America. In 1950 he was a top entertainer at the cafe at the hotel "La Perla" in Acapulco, Mexico (the cafe was managed then by Teddy Stauffer). From 1955 until November 1st, 1961 he worked as the general artistic director for Discos Columbia De México, S.A.. After he left Columbia he formed his own company PAI (Producciones Artisticas Interamericanas). In 1962 he became head of the new record-company Grabaciones Belart, S.A.. In the early 1970s he worked as a&r coordinator for Philips Phonografische Industrie, later PolyGram, for Latin America. He became also known as actor in the French movie "Les orgueilleux" (1953) and later in Mexican movies like "Agente XU 777" (1963), "Pacto de sangre" (1966) among others. In "The Dogs Of War" (1980) he had a small role as priest.
