Gate was one of the most celebrated and respected live electronic acts of the early 2000s Perth underground electronic scene and are widely recognised as one of the first live IDM/glitch acts in Western Australia. Comprising of two friends who'd known each other since high school. They originally started as a two piece, heavy drum machine industrial act called "Unaesthetic" who self released one cassette in 1999 of a run of 20 copies mostly given to their friends. Unaesthetic developed into Gate after the two friends taste moved away from goth and industrial and more towards the darker side of glitch and IDM. First performing live in June 2000. Gate quickly became one of the most sought after and talked about live electronic acts in Perth at the time. After 3 years of playing shows they quit in 2003, parted ways and never collaborated musically again. In 2020 Gate were recognised for their contributions and influence to West Australian Music and were permanently included and archived in The West Australian Music Archive at The State Library of Western Australia.
