8 Bit Recordings
Настоящее имя: 8 Bit Recordings
8 Bit Recordings was a record label and music collective that was started in Perth Western Australia in March 2000 by Noistruct, The Last Ninja and Deadcode. The first of it's kind in Western Australia. Through it's semi-regular showcase night VOID (which included the final solo set for Rob Swire and first performance of some Pendulum songs before he joined Pendulum) It originally set out to organise gigs and releases for the digital hardcore and breakcore scene, but later expanded to include other local experimental/noise and electronic artists including multi-genre electronic producer Pselodux and drill n bass/IDM/glitchstep producer Orange Dust and frequently playing with influential hardcore label Hardline Rekordingz (Founder Max Veritech credited them for "reviving the Perth hardcore scene" in the early 2000s)
8-Bit Recordings relocated to Melbourne in 2004 where they revived former Perth regular night "VOID" and released online and CDR releases. After 10 years as a collaborative label/collective. Boris Otterdam re-established 8-Bit Recordings as an Australian Vinyl, CD and Digital Release Label based in Perth Western Australia from 2010, before relocating to Brisbane Queensland in 2014. 8-Bit Recordings has released vinyl, CDs, CDrs and digital releases through sites like Bandcamp as well as organised gigs and parties for the Australian breakcore, hardcore and experimental electronic scene in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne.
Under the motto "We Don't Have The Technology" 8-Bit Recordings focused on promoting and releasing Australian producers of electronic music of all mediums, and was seeking to destroy misconceptions, that electronic music produced on PC based programs is of a lesser quality than hardware produced music.
8-Bit Recordings began releasing CD and CDR releases in 2001 and releasing vinyl in 2010. In it's final year in 2014 it was mainly re-releasing previous CD and CDR releases as digital downloads. As well as occasional new releases from artists already on the roster and select new artists that had already contributed to previous shows or releases some 14 years earlier and beyond.
In 2012 8-Bit Recordings was recognised by the Perth music scene for it's contributions in the early 2000s in an exhibition on the history of Western Australian Electronic Music (some 11 years after it was initially ignored by certain sections of it)
In May 2014 8-Bit Recordings released a double vinyl compilation of it's roster and guest producers as a final release. It was the first of it's kind in West Australian history.
After 14 years of operations. 8-Bit Recordings folded on Sunday September 7th 2014.
In 2020 The State Library Of Western Australia archived the entire catalogue of 8-Bit Recordings for permanent inclusion in the West Australian Music Archives.
PROLOGUE: Due to one senior staff member's tragic addiction to Butane gas sniffing in the summer of 2013. Two different releases were given the catalogue number 8BITCD24. After being fired from the label, the rest of the staff thought this was not just a hilarious oversight but stood as a reminder of the against the grain, wild chaotic ways of the label's roster in it's heyday. Thus it was not corrected.
8-bit Recordings was: Noistruct, Mandark, Holt, Notex, Gate, Chiba Lounge, Latenights, The Last Ninja, DJ Cyborg Ninja Assassin, Aston, Deadcode, Doc Razor, Strayce, Modex, Thirds, Pselodux, Cuntag, Chrism And Fenris, Orange Dust, Minus One and Stepcloak. With guest appearances on the final compilation by Dislasystem, Gelido, Matt Bleak, Carmel Harris Slurry Cunt and Maladroit.
