The Space Monkeys
Настоящее имя: The Space Monkeys
Об исполнителе:
Indie group active from 1994 through the late '90s. The four-piece were from Manchester, UK, and had a sound inspired by acid house and danceable indie rock from the late 1980s and early 1990s. As a result, The Space Monkeys were often compared to groups considered "baggy" or "Madchester" (Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses, Soup Dragons). The band played their first gig in the basement of the legendary Manchester music club/venue the Hacienda in November of 1995 and one week later signed a six-album deal with Tony Wilson's Factory Too label. In their own words, they signed to Wilson's label "for exactly the same reason that Joy Division and Happy Mondays had done years before. Nobody else wanted us." In late 1997, the group released their debut album "The Daddy Of Them All", featuring the minor drug-related hit "Sugar Cane". A second full length release (reputedly titled "Escape from the 20th Century") was recorded, including some tracks produced by notoriously creative hip hop producer Prince Paul (De La Soul, Stetsasonic). Since the Factory Too record label collapsed, the release of this album was delayed until 2013. Members: Richard McNevin-Duff, Dom Morrison, Tony Pipes, Chas Morrison, Neil Walsh
