D'Downbeats was a Filipino beat band formed in Manila, Philippines in 1964. They moved to Hong Kong and earned their living performing in nightclubs playing in the style of 1960's British beat. Eddie Reyes and D'Downbeats, managed by the Reyes clan of Pasig, owners of RCR Productions, appeared in contemporary TV specials and movies. In 1966, they released a single and shortly thereafter opened for the The Beatles at their concert of July 4, 1966 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium with Orlando Muñoz (and others) in Manila, Philippines performing "Get Off Of My Cloud", originally by The Rolling Stones. The D'Downbeats was the highest paid international band in Hong Kong during their time in the international city. After D'Downbeats breakup, the former members Smith, Hanopol, & Gonzalez formed their next group entitled Zero History. Zero History were ex pats based in Japan and were contracted to perform in shopping malls. After a particularly eventful performance in Yokohama's Astro shopping mall, Joey Smith was "discovered" by Shinki Chen (ex Powerhouse (4), Food Brain, & Shinki Chen & His Friends) & recruited for his next band along with Masayoshi Kabe (ex Golden Cups) which became the Japanese heavy psych / psych blues / hard rock supergroup Speed, Glue & Shinki in 1970.
