German singer and guitarist. Born on 27th October 1949. Died of cardiac arrest at his home in Düsseldorf on 4th December 2019. At the age of 18, he founded the garage rock band Harakiri Whoom together with Marius Müller-Westernhagen, and soon after he started the jazz rock project Sinus with future Kraftwerk drummer Karl Bartos. Bodo Staiger founded the band Rheingold with keyboardist (and future wife) Brigitte Kunze and lyricist Lothar Manteuffel. At the peak of his fame, Staiger played a pop star in the 1982 trash horror film “Der Fan”. After [m1018752] flopped, he switched to producing, founded the 3Klangrecords label, and the Rheinklang Studios on Corneliusstraße in Düsseldorf in 1988, where he recorded and mastered most Ghanaian Highlife songs. Artists such as Jeida Rich, Daddy Lumba and Nana Acheampong travelled from Ghana to Düsseldorf-Oberbilk to record with him. He also worked with musicians like Ofori Amponsah, Dada Kd, Oheneba Kissi, Amakye Dede, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Tagoe Sisters. One last Rheingold record entitled “Im Lauf der Zeit”, which he recorded with his wife in 2017, received little attention. Rheingold never played live, but were planning concerts at the time of his death. He leaves behind a son, Julian Staiger, and a daughter Nina Staiger.
