Populär (1989-1998) "There hasn't been a Hungarian group with such a huge success over the country since the breakup of Bonanza Banzai. The first LP was the work of four members: Csaba Kolonics – sythersizers, programming Márk Moldvai – sythersizers, programming, stage design Mátyás Milkovics – sythersizers, backing vocals, stage design Norbert Babos – lyrics, songwriting, lead vocals, additional stage decoration Their first full length took about seven years to get its final form and could not see daylight in the shadow of Bonanza Banzai (at that time), however "1421550" (New Faces On The Crucifix) became a smashing success at the time of its release. Unfortunately the album had got no, or too little financial and promotional support from the music label, so the group could not break new grounds or get sparkling again. Still, their debut LP has caused an overwhelming sales success almost reaching the level of gold. (???? sold copies) During spring of 1998 Csaba Kolonics has left the band by mutual accord and the three remaining members kept on the more and more drawn out studio works of their following album. Finally with a complete and new music material in their hands, shown for the audience of the Hungarian Depeche Mode Fan Club, the band's career has reached an end. Bad for them and worse for the public: an outstanding piece of musical work got thrown in the drawer, exigent instrumentation and well composed melodies, structured stage design and band-look would have marked the new period of the band. This is how Populär has ended, when the two remaining synthesizerists (without the lead singer Norbert) founded Neo (3), whose first successful song "The Pink Panther" The Pink Panther Theme has brought international credits. They've changed from melodic electropop to something that can be described the easiest way as big beat."
