Robin Scott (5)

First controller of BBC Radio 1 (1967-1969) and also songwriter. Born 24 October 1920, Died 7 February 2000. He oversaw the transition of The Light Programme into today's BBC Radio 2. Mark Paul was an alias used by Scott when he and entertainer Paddy Roberts (2) translated the French song "La tamise et mon jardin" by Pierre Dudan into the English "Softly, Softly" in 1954. It went #1 in the U.K. for Ruby Murray.
