Choir leader for Maria Magdalena Kammarkör / Maria Magdalena Chamber Choir Mats Nilsson , born June 17, 1958 in Arvika , is a Swedish conductor . Mats Nilsson studied at the Royal Academy of Music and obtained a diploma with choir conducting as his major. He has had Eric Ericson as a teacher in choral conducting, and studied orchestral conducting for, among others, Kjell Ingebretsen and Jorma Panula . He has also studied piano for Greta Erikson and early music for Andrew Parrott at Oxford . Mats Nilsson is a professor of choral conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, and since 2009 has led the Royal Academy of Music's chamber choir . Has also been conductor of the Bach Choir and the Immanuel Church's vocal ensemble. Mats Nilsson is currently the leader of the Maria Magdalena Chamber Choir and the Maria Magdalena Vocal Ensemble at Maria Magdalena Parish in Stockholm. [ 1 ] Between 1998 and 2003, he was a choir conducting teacher at the Sydney Conservatory of Music and conductor of the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs. In Sydney , he conducted many choral and orchestral works such as Verdi's Requiem , Mozart's C minor mass and most of Bach's major choral works. Nilsson has been a guest conductor in the Radio Choir , the Latvian Radio Choir, the Gothenburg Symphony Choir and the Coro di Santa Cecilia, Rome. As choirmaster , he has worked together with Neeme Järvi , Claudio Abbado , and others. Orchestras he has worked with include the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra , the Sydney Philharmonia Orchestra and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
