American operatic tenor. Born June 1, 1917 in Titusville, Pennsylvania. Died January 21, 1952 (age of 34) in Lincoln, Nebraska. Brother of vocalist Beverly Dame. Dame began voice lessons at the age of fourteen. He received a scholarship to Western Reserve Univeristy, where he organized a male chorus. He also studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He received another scholarship, this one from the Juillard School of Music. While at Juilliard, he began singing professionally with the Cleveland Orchestra under the direction of Artur Rodzinski. He made his first appeareance with the Metropolitan Opera Company in 1943.He appeared regularly on radio and with the Metropolitan Opera Company. For seven years he was the star of the "American Album of Familiar Music" radio show. His accompanist was often George Schick, a well-known pianist/conductor, who was also an accompanist for tenor Richard Tauber. Dame died of a heart attack while on tour a few hours before an opera he was to perform at.
