Alberto de Campo (b. 1964) is an Austrian electronic musician, composer, researcher and software designer, professor for generative & computational art at the Institute for Time-Based Media at Universität Der Künste Berlin. De Campo is a member of Trio Brachiale and Powerbooks Unplugged, and a co-founder of Republic111 (with Julian Rohrhuber). He attended the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, where Alberto studied classical composition with Andrzej Dobrowolski, Georg Friedrich Haas, and Beat Furrer, jazz guitar with Adelhard Roidinger and Peter O'Mara, and electronic music with Curtis Roads and Stephen Travis Pope. In 2005–2007, Alberto de Campo was a lead researcher at IEM Graz, where he established SonEnvir project and supervised an interdisciplinary team studying data sonification in different scientific disciplines and contexts. Before that, he was a research director at CREATE (UC Santa Barbara), an Edgard Varèse Guest Professor for electronic music at Technische Universität Berlin, and also taught at Kunsthochschule Für Medien in Cologne. From 2007 to 2009, de Campo worked as a professor for music informatics at Institut Fuer Musik Und Medien at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. Since then, de Campo joined the faculty of UdK, focusing his research on computer music, computational/generative art, AV performances with complex systems, data sonification, and interdisciplinary arts and practices. He also creates installations inspired by cybernetics and radical constructivism, often in collaboration with art groups, such as the Society for Nontrivial Pursuits. Alberto de Campo was a lead researcher at 3DMIN – Design, Development and Dissemination of New Musical Instruments, an interdisciplinary team of researchers and artists, in 2013–16.
