Andrzej Dobrowolski (Lwów, Ukrainia, 9 Sept 1921 - Graz, Austria, 8 Aug 1990) was a Polish composer. He studied the organ with Rutkowski, singing with Belina-Skupiewski and the clarinet with Kurkiewicz, composition with Malawski 1945-51 and theory with Łobaczewska. In 1947 he was appointed to teach at the State Higher School for Music (now Academy of Music) in Kraków, Poland. He moved to Graz in 1976 as professor of composition at the Hochschule für Musik. He was general secretary of the Polish Composers' Union for many years, and played a key role in the Polish Radio electronic music studio in Warsaw. Electro-acoustic works were by no means the dominant of artistic expression for Andrzej Dobrowolski. Throughout his life, he made use of various musical genres, but even in the field of purely symphonic music one can hear in his works “electronic” sound which he created by breaking the conventions related to the traditional sound structure of the orchestra
