"Uncle" Dave Sturgill (1917-2004) was an old time fiddle, mandolin, and banjo player, as well as luthier from Piney Creek, North Carolina. He opened Skyland Musical Instrument Company in 1971 and hosted jam sessions there regularly. These jams later developed into his band, The Skyland Strings
