Born: July 7, 1922, New York City, New York, USA Died:June 16, 2006, Los Angeles, California, USA He was the baritone member of The Crew Chiefs, and he also sang with Glenn Miller's band. Malvin's compositions include "I'm Headin' For California", "Join the W.A.C.", "Time in the Town of Berlin", "Flying Home", "Glenn's Travels", "Goodnight Wherever You Are", "Time Alone Will Tell", and "Let Me Be Your Sugar Baby". He sang on one charted song: "A You're Adorable (The Alphabet Song)" by Buddy Kaye Quintet in 1959--it landed at the #24 spot. He was featured on 'Jackie Gleason Presents "Oooo!"' as the Vocal Orchestra of Artie Malvin, creating the sound of a string section and orchestra without singing words. After World War II and Glenn Miller's death, Malvin became heavily immersed in the popular music of the 1940's and 1950's, being involved in everything from children's music, to the beginnings of rock and roll, to jingles for commercials. In the 1960s and 1970s Malvin wrote musical material for television shows earning two Emmy Awards (one for his work on the Carol Burnett Show and the other for work on a Frank Sinatra Special). In 1980 he received a Tony nomination for his work on the Broadway show, "Sugar Babies'' starring Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller.
