Romona Gibbons aka Romona E. Gibbons, Romona Owen was born in Vallejo, California and was the daughter of a primitive Baptist minister. After her high school graduation she attended college at California State University, Chico where she majored in theater-dance. While at college she also sang lead in one of Northern California's most popular bands. She was also a back-up singer-dancer for Irene Manning. She had lead roles in musicals, West Side Story, On the Town and Gingerbread Lady. She was also in several dance productions. She also had a solo singing spot in Finian's Rainbow which starred Gary Collins, Mary Ann Mobley and Scott Jarvis. At some stage, she was in a band called Star which was contracted to play at the Las Vegas Hilton a month at a time.. The band consisted of herself and six white musicians and she was on the road with them for three years..Gibbons was also in a Motown revue with her good friends, Jennifer Yuill and singer actress, Lori Lynner called the Sh’Girls. She and Daryl Stevenett both made vocal contributions to the Frank Harris directed 1984 film, Killpoint which starred Leo Fong, Cameron Mitchell, Richard Roundtree, Stack Pierce and Diane Stevenett. Gibbons sang a Herman Jeffries composition, "Livin' on the Inside" which was used for the film's end credits.. She was a backing vocalist on Michael McLean's album, 20610760 which was released that year. And her book Evolution of a Christian was also released that year.
