Примечание: When you listen to the songs of the Cologne band Salomea, it rarely feels as if they really lasted as long as they were written. In the songs just so much happens. Over four or five minutes Salomea drive their songs in unexpected directions, constantly changing the structures, so that the material comes across as anything but monotonous. In 2015 they release their debut EP, followed three years later by the self-titled album. The EP "Empress" is released just one year after the band was founded, when the band still called itself Project Salomea. By the way, Salomea is neither an allusion to the similar sounding Israeli king nor to the similar sounding bacteria, but simply the second first name of the singer Rebekka Salomea Ziegler. The German-American grew up in Schwanau and studied jazz and pop singing in Cologne. Since then she has been composing and writing the lyrics for her band, which also consists of Yannis Anft (keyboard), Oliver Lutz (bass) and Leif Berger (drums). Salomea finds inspiration in artists like Sharon Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Erykah Badu. However, these musical role models hardly appear in her music. Salomea pursues a very own style: "Urban Jazz/Experimental Hip Hop/Contemporary Multi-Genre" is what the band calls their sound. The quartet usually whistles about the harmonies that are common in pop music, which is why the music can be described as needing getting used to without any value judgements. A song like "Bardarbunka" from the debut album "Salomea", for example, usually starts with jazz chords, hectic drums and not very harmonic vocal melodies. But what comes after just under three and a half minutes sounds like a defective robot in its last moves or a second-grade student holding a recorder in his hand for the first time. Thus Salomea walks the fine line between almost unfamiliar, unmelodic and unspent, which has already led the band on stages they shared with mainstream artists like Jamie Cullum. In 2020 Salomea, who meanwhile sees herself "at the forefront of the popular music avant-garde", starts again and after a long concert run, countless sessions and rehearsals, finishes work on her second album "Bathing In Flowers
