Made in da Shade

Independent Dutch hip-hop label, publishing company for print media and theatre production company, founded in 1992 by Marjorie Boston, Maarten van Hinte en Lucien Kembel. The group made 'Urban' theatre, performances for new times in old cities, and thus mainly focused on young people. Theater was seen by Made in da Shade as a living place where different disciplines come together. They therefore collaborated structurally with actors, DJs, artists, musicians, writers, rappers, painters and computer programmers, using everything from hip-hop to Hollywood and from the street to the classical stage as a source of inspiration. Made in da Shade made about one large production per year, which toured in the Netherlands and Belgium. In addition, Made in da Shade produced a Maxisingle every year, a small-scale theater project made by a new talent, and the group organized the Right about now festival, a meeting where very different 'scenes' were confronted. The group also worked in schools and other places where many young people come, where they gave performances and performed theater projects. In 2007 Made in da Shade merged with Cosmic Theater to become MC, with Marjorie Boston as artistic director, Lucien Kembel as general director and Maarten van Hinte. as a member of the artistic team, permanent director and writer.
