WKOW

WKOW is the ABC-affiliated television station for Madison, Wisconsin, USA. WKOW-TV was the first television station in the Madison area, established June 30, 1953 as a CBS affiliate. The TV suffix was dropped from the call sign in 2009. Monona Broadcasting Company began with WKOW radio located in the heart of Madison, at 215 West Washington in 1947. The WKOW call sign was an acknowledgment to Wisconsin's dairy industry, and featured a smiling bovine (or cow) alongside the emphasized "K-O-W" of the call sign.
