"Harmony Recording" was an Australian recording studio/label operating in the mid 1950s to early 1960s in Sydney. Located at 177 George Street, near Circular Quay, was "Harmony House", a music record store, operated by John Cohen. In 1940 John's son Ron established behind the store a commercial recording studio that is of importance in the history of Australian jazz. A newspaper advertisement in 1940 for "Harmony Recording Studios" proclaimed that you could "Record your voice for 3 shillings 6d". Artists who recorded early songs there included Frank Ifield and the famous opera singer Joan Sutherland.
Alice Cohen, daughter of Ron Cohen has written a book on the days of Harmony House and of her talented dad entitled "Direct Sound to Disc" (ISBN 0975847104).
